A few of us from the lab had a beer and great discussion with Cathy and Roger Farwell last Friday. Cathy generously offered kwartzlab her/their kiln! Whoo hoo! and thank you!
More after the break...

Need 20A at 220VAC

Big giant coil!

Even the manuals!

We got hot, real hot, and damned hot.

With a #6 cone we get 1185C to 1243C. The "cone" goes inside and essentially keeps the power switch in the on position until the cone melts at a specific temperature allowing the switch to turn off. At least, I think that's how it works. James' brain is already working on an electronic control for our kiln. Cathy's other kiln was refitted with electronics, so we had something to look at to get some ideas.

Handy lid tether thing (not included).

Need to build one of these ventilators...

and get some patio stones as a kiln base.
I'll bring this donation offer to the board on Wednesday night. Have your say: come to the meeting or mail the list. In the meantime I'll be googling all the cool stuff we can do with a kiln... Oooo annealing glass!
Happy making,
DW
