Gus, Eric, Karl, and I attended TEDxWaterloo on Thursday. Fantastic experience. Great crowd, great talks, great afterparty.

Here we are at The Gig theatre (the old Highland cinema), lining up to get in.

Jack Jackowetz at ArtBar + Culture Club + kwartzlab

Karl, Gus, and I jumped into Joseph Fung's Culture Club experiment tonight at ArtBar and it was a blast. Jack Jackowetz opened a show of his work in ArtBar which is located at Centre in the Square. We met Jack on Saturday at Culture Camp and he stopped by kwartzlab later that day for a visit. I was intrigued and curious to see his work. Jack does some cool sort of enhanced-reality digital manipulation of photographs. Especially eye-popping were his pieces on transparent film laminated to aluminum. Equally delightful were the discussions and introductions in this very smart and friendly community.

Culture Camp - Workin' on the opportunities

CultureCamp_2009-12-19 011

Gus, Darcy, Eric, and I from kwartzlab joined the Culture Camp unconference on Saturday. It was great to connect with lots of people passionate about the arts and our local scene. Thanks to Brock Hart for organizing and The City of Kitchener for supporting. The Artbar catered and the food was excellent. Happily, we were able to contribute a few talks to the mix and invited attendees to come see kwartzlab after the uncon.

I think the goal of the event was to connect people in the arts community, so from my perspective: mission accomplished!

Ignite:Waterloo Was Fantastic

Ignite:Waterloo was a really fun and interesting event tonight. Thanks so much to the organizers (esp. Mark) for inviting me to speak on hacker spaces. The format was a good challenge and the audience was great.

On Tuesday this past week, our very good friends John Jung and Anne Lukin at Canada's Technology Triangle (CTT) hosted an Ambassador Event to give kwartzlab an opportunity to talk to the community. Waterloo Councillor Karen Scian generously agreed to co-host the event. A massive thank you to John, Anne, and Karen.
