[KwartzAnnounce] Members Meeting - Wednesday Feb. 17th at 7 PM

Hi everyone,

Last night the board decided to call a members meeting for Wednesday,
February 17th at 7 PM.  The reason we called the meeting is that there
are some issues we've been discussing where we think it would be
productive to have a face to face discussion with everyone.

So far, the following things are on the agenda:

1. Membership Hiatus
2. Membership Vetting
3. Vision for 2010

Just to give a bit of background on these:

1. We decided we wanted to give hiatuses, because we have co-op students
who are going to be out of town for four months at a time.  But do we
want to restrict hiatuses to that situation, or do we extend them
further?

2. Right now, a member is admitted by a majority vote of the board.  But
what happens if they haven't met that many directors?  Do we want to
allow the entire membership to vote on this?  If so, how high is the
bar?

3. We've come a long way since that first meeting at Williams in March
of last year.  But where do we go from here?  What do we envision the
space being in the next 12 months?

There will be an official agenda going out on Saturday, but we wanted to
get the word out to everyone in advance.  If there are any other topics
that you'd like to discuss with the whole membership, email me by the
end of Friday.  Sorry for the short notice.

We can begin mailing list discussions of these items after the official
agenda goes out.  Right now I'd like to keep discussion to things we'd
like to add to the agenda, if anything.
