[KwartzLab] Design software for the Laser Cutter

Does anyone know what file format the laser cutter will be using? Can I 
use my favorite CAD software and then export a .dxf?
I think James mentioned using adobe Illustrator and something about 
lines drawn in red being the ones that would get cut?
It might be a little premature but now that it has been ordered I want 
to start designing for it.
