Most have kitchens, yes. But when we hold events at the space, it
would be nice to have a clean, dedicated food prep area. When people
are working extended hours, a place to sit and grab a snack, without
having to take it into one lab or another, or even the lounge where
things get messy, would be nice. And really, geeks love their
chemistry and lots of us are interested in gastronomical pursuits
(creation of as well as the devouring of). If we want to hold one of
Steph's bread-baking workshops--or, really, any gastro workshop--it
would be awesome to have the facilities, and not to have to repurpose
existing space.
I like having the TV there for watching videos (largely for background
noise and amusement) and for playing video games, particularly during
Wintereenmas (which I realise is only an annual event, but). I would
prefer to have a comfy lounge, though I will agree that it doesn't
need to be huge. The only times ours is ever full is when we're having
an event. Oh, wait. :)
That said, safety and cleanliness are my biggest priorities for a
space. Frankly, the Boehmer Box building does not represent either of
those for me. I would never want to be working there of an evening on
my own, not just because I'm a woman but because frankly, I've seen
some of the random crackheads twitching their way through the halls at
night.
