Subject: [KwartzLab] Special visitor next Tuesday evening (the 7th)
Some of you may know that, for some time now, several people have been trying to get the LPKF PCB mill operational. This unit was donated to the lab by RIM and had been sitting idle in a corner. So far, we have had partial success, getting it working to the point where we can move the head in XY, raise and lower the router, and open/close the spindle collet. However, we have not been able to operate the tool crib and its associated auxilliary collet clamp, nor can we get the spindle to spin up. The unit does not respond to the commands that control this part of its functionality. At this point we're pretty much stumped.
It turns out that next week Chris Ware, who does support for LPKF USA, will be in the area on other business and he has agreed to come have a look at the unit Tuesday evening. His help may be limited to identifying which of several rather expensive main parts is at fault, but even that would be a step forward at this point.
I would appreciate it if everyone could avoid any noisy activity in the heavy lab that evening, so that Chris and I at least have a chance to think straight and converse without shouting...
