Has anyone tried using the non-colour settings yet when logging in?

The colours are totally unreadable in xterm, if you use the default
black text on a white background. White characters on a white
background is not good.
However, I changed my xterm theme to use white text on a black
background, and now the BBS is useable (or, I should say, readable).
