[KwartzLab] in search of bix punchdown tool

Hi Daniel,

Congrats on the new digs; hope you're loving it.

I can spot you one. Also a conductivity tester, cable tracer, and cable certifier to prove that you have them wired right and verify what speeds they are capable of :).

You can get that stuff locally as well at Primepsec.com (just up the hill from the AVIS car rental place, just south of Weber and Union).

That white box looks like a standard home structured wiring product; if you take that picture to Primespec, you will likely find that they can sell you all the little modules and such that snap into all those little holes, if you like.

They'll also likely have the RJ45 BIX strip in stock too (easy to call them and ask!).

The RJ45 BIX strip you found is Cat5e rated (see under "Transmission Characteristics", where is says it exceeds Cat5e standards when used with certified patch cords -- lots aren't, so shop carefully). Likewise, you'll want to look carefully at the jacket on the wires, and ensure that they say "Cat5e" or at least "350 Mhz". If they say "Cat 3", then you should be able to get 100 Mbps speeds, but GigE may have issues.

I'm told I should just unhook the wires from the one bix block (for phone) and then mount them on the rj45 block I'd buy. Et Voila, capacity for ethernet to each room. I've got wifi running now, and it's pretty sweet, but ethernet would make us even happier.
