I hope you all have recovered from a crazy couple of weeks from our last 3
events....Hacky Halloween, SoOnCon and Night\Shift!!
I just wanted to send out a heartfelt congratulations and thank you to
everyone who was involved in these 3 events (I could name you all, but you
know who you are!!). By having kwartzlab take part in and organize these
types of events, it makes me proud to be a member. When I see others
putting their heart into making something happen, it motivates me even more.
In the days leading up to these events, there was a certain "buzz in the
air"...a fervor of energy at the lab that brought folks together to make
carving knives (none of which broke this year thanks to JB weld!), lots of
kit making, and days of soldering sweatshops that led into the wee hours of
Friday's BBQ was good times! Even better when we were finally able to bring
our CNC router into the space after and long, complicated and stressful
process. I had fun giving a talk about my props, it forced me to look back
at my work over the past 5 years as I put together my slideshow, and to
reflect on my journey as a maker.
Saturday's conference was a huge success. I thought the location we had was
just perfect. It was really great to see folks give talks about the things
that they are passionate about. I'm certainly looking forward to hacking a
Canon Powershot now! It was great to connect with some new friends over the
lunch break too. Everyone at the conference seemed to be really enjoying
As we transitioned from SoOnCon to Night\Shift, it was a little chaotic,
but many hands made our "pop-up makerspace" come to life in no time. The
public turn-out was awesome. It was a steady stream of people coming in to
check us out. I had lots of fun with Jen and Danielle (our current AIR from
In Paper Dreams) helping people make paper banners with our Silhouette
machines. Huge bonus points to everyone who stayed to the very end to load
up cars so we didn't need to clean up the next day!
I've edited and uploaded the photos we took last night. You can check em

I should get to bed...but just wanted to thank you guys again for being so
awesome, and for doing all that you do. :D
